My Spiritual Cocktail
I am a middle-aged spiritual woman; first born child of an Anglican mother and Catholic father. Even though both my parents did not practice their religious faith I was raised to believe in God, Jesus & the Holy Ghost. I was not baptised in to the faith until the summer after my twelfth year along with my sisters and brother. A year and a half later I after completing my confirmation classes I was one out of approximately twelve girls confirmed by the Archbishop of Canterbury who also performed our first Holy Eucharist. During the summer of 1989 – I at the time a mother of three was baptised in the Church of Christ in California by being fully immersed in a baptismal bath.
At school on Saturday mornings we had R.E. it was our third lesson and last class before our weekend would begin. For those who may not know R.E. was the abbreviation for ‘Religious Education’; in actuality it really was education in Christianity. Church on Sundays either at the Church of England or the Catholic church was compulsory for all full-time boarders exceptions were not permitted except if you were confined to sickbay or bed due to being contagious with a sickness or away on a special weekend at home with family.
I have always been a bit of a woodland and water being having experienced many an adventures within criteria of the woodland areas and waterways of Massachusetts, Nova Scotia, Cornwall, Devon, England and Wales.
Back when I was small I absolutely loved spending time around these wonderful places either on my own or with a friend even now as I nearing 49 years I still do. Yes, I’m sure there were a few dangers but I was not aware of any living in the countryside; until something spooked me then I would high-tail it like a startled fawn running towards a place of safety. On the whole I felt like something was always near keeping an eye on me guiding me in one way or another.
I like to watch and listen to the creatures that live in the trees, woods and waterways but I do find the alligators to be a bit frightening and hinder any enjoyment that could be had in the inland waterways of which is their habitat.
